It's time!
Last year during the pre-school rush I picked up four Composition notebooks on sale for .25 a piece.
I love a new notebook. I have tons of them.
I love to write.
But at 10+ dollars a pop I could have saved myself a lot of green just by making my own.
If you have some of these items you can make your own too!!
I found the best way to cut the new covers was to trace the old one.
Cut and glue.
Repeat for the front and back, and inside as well.
If you want to add a book mark I found a ribbon added to the back cover before the paper was glued down works perfectly.
Using a card stock weight paper worked best, it adheres best and later on it will hold up to the sanding better.
What? Sanding?
Yes.
No matter how hard I tried I could never get a perfect fit.
But hit that with a super fine grit sanding block and you can wear it right down to a nice smooth finish.
A quick note. Let the paper and glue completely dry before you sand. I was an overzealous sander once and had to do some creative decorating to cover a HUGE hole in the paper!
Now decorate, the sky is the limit!
I pulled out the Cricut, stickers, ribbon and had a ton of other ideas but it would have all forced me to go buy some new supplies, and that's not what this is about!
Man I'm a messy crafter!
I love these notebooks, because I can customize them for gifts. One I made is not shown here because it went to live with my niece for her birthday.
Can you imagine this as a project for a girls slumber party?
I can!

Awesome! I love those notebooks, they're the best. Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
ReplyDeleteAdorable and I love the embellishments you used.
ReplyDeleteAmazing idea!! Maybe people have been doing this for a while but i never thought of it before!! I write a lot too and I love those pretty journals you see in the bookstores but I just can't bring myself to pay the crazy price for them! When I get into crafting, I will def try making one of these!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that I'm following you! What a clever idea. And I can relate to being a messy crafter. Oops:) Thanks for sharing on Blog Stalking Thursday!

Thanks for reminding me about these. Im thinking of starting a once a month crafting night with our youth group girls and this would be a perfect project to start them off with!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the Sew Darn Crafty linkup:) Have a great weekend!
Those are so cute!! I would have never thought about sanding. Great idea. Thank you so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent party. So thrilled to have you. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I see these as great friend gifts. :) Saw your link at Sew Many Ways.
ReplyDeletePJ, love the covers on your composition notebooks! I use these and will consider decorating the fronts of them from now on. Why not? It looks really cool! Found your link on Sew Many Ways, would love for you to come over and see what I'm doing with the Li'l Journal Project. I'm your newest follower, and I would love for you to follow me!
ReplyDeleteSee? This is something you can easily sell. You should go to a local market or sell on Etsy or something. Whatever happened to your old selling plan? You could save up for a house faster! Or have extra to spend on craft supplies! lol
